Memphis Grizzlies rookie point guard Ja Morant almost ended Kevin Love's career earlier this season.

Morant tried to jump over Love and dunk on him, but the Grizzlies youngster missed the jam. However, it was one of the filthiest dunk attempts we have seen in NBA history.

During an interview with SportsCenter, the Grizzlies star talked about that monster dunk attempt over Love and explained why he thinks he missed it.

“I think it was a loose ball and I just scooped it up,” Ja Morant said about his dunk attempt on Kevin Love in Cleveland.

“I just went down to finish the play and he went to try and take the charge. I think I kind of cocked the ball back too far trying to dunk it hard and lost control a little bit and hit the back rim. I wish I could have that back.”

Morant was going to win the 2020 Rookie of the Year Award before the season was canceled due to COVID-19. Had the Grizzlies' new franchise player converted that dunk over Love, it would have probably gone down as the best play of the 2019-20 season.

Ja was averaging 17.6 points, 3.5 rebounds and 6.9 assists for the Grizzlies before the season was called off. He was also shooting 49.1 percent from the field, 36.7 percent from beyond the arc and 77.0 percent from the free-throw line.

The Grizzlies have an extremely bright future with Morant leading the way. We'll see if the explosive guard is able to jump over somebody during his NBA career down the line.
