After firing Dave Fizdale, the Memphis Grizzlies have now made another change to their coaching staff. The team has hired former Grizzlies player Greg Buckner to serve as an assistant coach on interim head coach J.B. Bickerstaff’s staff, per a press release posted on the team's official website.

Buckner has five years of coaching experience, all of which he spent with the Houston Rockets from 2011 to 2016. His first three years were spent as a player development coach and was then promoted to assistant coach, where he served for the next two seasons alongside Bickerstaff. He had most recently served as a television analyst for Fox Sports Southwest covering the Dallas Mavericks.

Prior to pursuing a coaching career, Buckner played 10 seasons in the NBA, averaging 5.0 points and 2.8 rebounds in 570 career games. He was drafted 53rd overall by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1998 draft, and also played for the Philadelphia 76ers, the Minnesota Timberwolves, and the Denver Nuggets, before spending his last NBA season with the Grizzlies in 2008-09.

Buckner will join a Memphis Grizzlies squad which has continued to struggle this season. The team has won just one of its first five games since Bickerstaff took over for Fizdale.
