The Memphis Grizzlies will be throwing it back to their roots this season by donning some throwback jerseys of the now-defunct Vancouver Grizzlies team. This was recently announced by a Grizzlies fan page via Twitter, who even posted a Photoshopped image of prized rookie Ja Morant giving a fresh take on the two-decade-old design.

It was actually in Vancouver where the Grizzlies organization traces its origins. It was in 1995 when the Vancouver Grizzlies was first introduced to the NBA as the league expanded its operations to Canada. This was also the same season the Toronto Raptors first entered the league, and boy have their respective legacies been so different.

While we all know how the Raptors finally secured their first NBA title last season after waiting nearly 20 years, it only took six years for Vancouver to sell their rights to the team. Things obviously didn't work out for them, but at the very least, they still hold the honor of being one of the first ever Canadian teams in the NBA.

As for the current Grizzlies side, though, its as if their starting from scratch again this summer as well. They've officially moved on from the Mike Conley-Marc Gasol era, and are now entering a new phase in their franchise. Thankfully for them, they were able to get their hands on one of the best prospects in the recently-concluded draft in Morant, and it does seem like they will be rebuilding their team around this highly-promising youngster.
