Memphis Grizzlies superstar point guard, Ja Morant, has been on a meteoric rise. So much so that other NBA stars have been calling him one of the best players in the league already. Morant has been on a crazy tear lately. He scored 33, 41, 30, 36 and 26 games over his last five, respectively.

On Thursday night, Morant was back at it again. The Grizzlies are hosting the Detroit Pistons. Midway through the first quarter with the Grizzlies up 14-8, Morant hit a running floater in the lane. It was his third bucket early on. After hitting the shot, during his jog back to the other end, he motioned for a timeout. But he did not mean for his team. He was letting the Pistons know that they needed a timeout. The Pistons agreed, as they called one shortly after the bucket.

Morant and the Grizzlies ended up taking a commanding 32-18 lead after the 1st quarter and have not looked back. The lead has grown to almost 30 points in an obvious mismatch.

Following a slight step back last season for the superstar point guard, Morant has taken a massive leap forward this year. He is averaging over 25 points per game, to go along with just under seven assists and six rebounds per game. His shooting has improved vastly this year. He is shooting a career-high 49 percent from the field, and 40 percent from deep.

Morant and the Grizzlies are looking for their seventh win in a row. That would bring their record to 26-14, placing them 4th in the Western Conference.
