Here are the current GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition review scores.

GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition Review Scores: Metascores of 56 on XSX, 63 on PS5, and 40 on Switch

PLAYSTATION 5 REVIEWS FOR GTA TRILOGY DEFINITIVE EDITION HAD THE HIGHEST SCORES

Currently standing at 63 Metascore on MetacriticGTA Trilogy Definitive Edition‘s PlayStation 5 review scores have the highest scores. At 63, the game's review scores on the PS5 are still far from the dismal user review scores, which currently stand at 0.8.

Atomix, Hey Poor Player, and JeuxActu gave the game the only positive reviews for the PS5 version of the GTA Trilogy remasters, effectively carrying the games' scores average up. “Despite the complaints and all, the reality is that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is a pretty good remastered of three great PS2 classics,” says Atomix. “Something important to understand is that this is just remastered with few changes, not remakes.”

Giving the game a 4/5 score, GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition was also praised by Hey Poor Player, saying: “Even though a new coat of paint can’t cover every imperfection (and creates a couple new ugly streaks in the process), Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy is still a serviceable update for three absolute classics. With the quality of life improvements and visual upgrades, it’s still a fine way to enjoy three amazing games beloved by so many.”

Meanwhile, cgm‘s review reads simply: “GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is a relic of its time. A relic that was better left unearthed.” cgm gave GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition review score of 2/10.

The GTA Trilogy review scores just keep getting worse as we move from one console to another.

XBOX SERIES X REVIEWS FOR GTA TRILOGY DEFINITIVE EDITION WERE UNFORGIVING

The best review for GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition for the Xbox Series X came from the French publication Jeuxvideo a 14/20. However, the optimistic review focused more on the actual games' content, instead of the technical aspects of it. “We are once again dealing with three great works from the world of video games, it is undeniable,” reads the review. “Despite the passing years, the three open-worlds still deliver unforgettable atmospheres and cities teeming with details. The latter precisely are as incredible as they are coherent with these passers-by who go about their business, these multiple secondary axes which add credibility to the whole, and especially these new plays of light which sublimate the whole. But it is clear that despite this little more than welcome facelift (which still lacks homogeneity), the experiences show their age. Their gameplay can be dated, especially GTA III which, today, is really difficult to handle. As you can see, this compilation will undoubtedly delight the most curious who want to discover three legends, or even the nostalgic who wish to rediscover the sensations of yesteryear while enjoying a refurbished visual, but will disappoint those looking for more current mechanics.”

The rest of the reviews weren't as optimistic. Xbox Achievements called the game “a messy remaster of three genre-defining open worlds, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition fails in giving GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas the treatment they deserve, but beneath the slightly shabby veneer, those same great games remain.

Meanwhile, Gamer.nl recognized how GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition will continue to be seminal, but for all the wrong reasons. The review reads: “For two decades, the three GTA games from the PlayStation 2 era symbolized the rise of the open world genre. Their groundbreaking freedom and timeless music gave us memories for life. Now these historic games instantly symbolize what a remaster should absolutely not do.”

With a Metascore of 40, there's no saving the Nintendo Switch version of the game. GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition‘s highest review score comes from TheSixthAxis, which gave the game a 6/10, calling it a “wasted potential.” The review reads: “If you’re coming into Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy expecting each game to look and play like GTA V, prepare for disappointment at a passionless upscaling effort. On the flipside, if you fancy reliving these open world wonders with some of their rougher gameplay edges sanded down, prepare to lose yourself for sixty hours or more.”

Pocket Tactics gave the game a 3/10, calling it a “shocking mishandling of three beloved classics, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition on Switch is a poorly ported mess of frame rate drops, popping, ugly characters, and bad decisions. Time to dust off the PS2.”

ON TOP OF THE LOW CRITIC SCORES ARE A PLETHORA OF 0 SCORES FROM THE COMMON MAN

GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition received a 0.6 average user score on the Switch, 0.5 on the Xbox Series X, and a 0.8 on the PlayStation 5. This just goes to show how disappointed fans have been in the game. Not to mention how the PC version of the game still can't receive an official metascore, only because the game has been pulled out of the PC storefront, and has been disabled by Rockstar from being played using their launcher.

GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition was a wasted opportunity to immortalize GTA IIIGTA San Andreas, and GTA Vice City that could have also helped bring these classics to a new and younger audience. Grove Street Games were definitely up to the task, being primarily mobile game porters, who even used the smartphone version of the three games to bring them to modern consoles. The upscaling naturally faced obstacles and showcases a lack of oversight from the side of Rockstar Games. With how Take-Two Interactive's CEO Strauss Zelnick badmouthed CD Projekt Red when Cyberpunk 2077 launched horribly last year, Rockstar's parent company is now stuck in the same position, and in more ways than one, it feels like an even bigger failure than Cyberpunk 2077 was.
