Much talk around Arsenal as of late has centered on the ‘trust the process' saying, which calls for fans to simply be patient with the club's long-term sporting project. However, Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard is setting expectations beyond what club officials can even dream of at the moment.

In speaking to Sky Sports, Odegaard revealed he wants to win the Premier League within “a couple of years” of his run with the club.

“To get the club up the table, to the top of the league and to fight for European football,” Odegaard said. “For this season, obviously we want to get back to European football and then hopefully with time, win trophies, the Champions League and hopefully win the Premier League within a couple of years.

“That’s how it should be at this club, that’s the standard.”

For the moment, Arsenal has ways to go before it can emerge as a contender for a top-four spot in the Premier League. The Gunners currently sit at 20th place in the Premier League table this season and have yet to score a mere goal in a match.

Odegaard's high expectations for his Arsenal run should be far from a surprise, as he came from a powerhouse club in Real Madrid that sets its sights every season on winning the Champions League and La Liga competitions.

A return to Champions League action for Arsenal would at the least be a formidable start to building a winning culture within the club. The Premier League side has not featured in the Champions League competition since the 2016-2017 campaign, when it came away with a 10-2 aggregate loss to Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich in the round of 16.

The Norwegian talent is in the first season of the four-year contract deal he signed with Arsenal over the recent summer transfer window. He has so far featured in two fixtures with the side in all competitions this season.
