Harrison Barnes leaving the Golden State Warriors to join the Dallas Mavericks gave the Mavs the breath of fresh air it needed in free agency. Now being put in the position to be more than just a role player, Mark Cuban has high expectations for the small forward to excel in his new position.

With the acquisition of Andrew Bogut additionally from free agency, it seems the Mavericks could make an valiant effort in the playoffs next season, even if they are copying the Warriors style.

“I’m excited about having a larger role,” commented Barnes a few days ago. “I’m more so excited about growing into that. It’s not one of those things where I’m expected to come out there every night and be the guy, but I’m going to be one of the major guys on the team.”

With the likes of Dirk Nowitzki helping lead the team, Barnes will find a comfortable position in adjusting to Rick Carlisle‘s system. The Mavericks have no intention to tank this year, so Barnes will have to help this Dallas team however he can earn Dirk one last championship.
