The Atlanta Hawks have the worst record in the NBA this season, but point guard Trae Young has been putting up superstar numbers, which is why Hawks head coach Lloyd Pierce has “zero doubts” Young will be an All-Star.

Young is in first place among Eastern Conference guards in All-Star voting despite the Hawks' terrible record:

“He’s an All-Star,” Lloyd Pierce said, via Sarah K. Spencer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “And I’ll tell you firsthand, as a coach who votes, it’s hard to vote for teams with our record, it really is. It’s hard to vote against a guy with his numbers. And I don’t want to knock the East, but I can’t imagine there’s any other players (that are) playing better basketball than Trae Young.

“We would love to be in a position where our record helps him, more than anything, because Trae being at the All-Star event helps our organization, helps our team. We’re excited, we’re proud, we want him to be there.

“I have no doubts. I have zero doubts that he’s going to be there. And we need to do everything we can to improve our team, and he understands that, and I think he’s bought into that even more so as we’ve struggled and he’s had success. It’s not enough, and he’s recognized that, so he’s trying to do more to empower other guys. But even doing so, he’s still putting up the numbers he’s putting up.”

Young has been invited to participate in the 3-Point Contest and Skills Challenge during All-Star Weekend. The Hawks would certainly love to have Young represent the franchise in Chicago during All-Star Weekend in what has been a dreadful season.

Young is averaging 29.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists in 35 games for the Hawks while shooting 44.5 percent from the field, 37.5 percent from beyond the arc and 85.3 percent from the free-throw line. The Hawks only have eight wins, but it's clear Atlanta needs to get Young more talent around him.

The Hawks are one of the teams that has shown interest in acquiring Andre Drummond from the Detroit Pistons.
