Virginia's De'Andre Hunter talked about honoring his late father after being selected as the fourth overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks in the 2019 NBA Draft.

After being selected fourth overall, De'Andre Hunter reminisced about his late father, who passed away when he was in first grade. Though his father has passed on, the 21-year-old believes his dad is seeing everything he's seeing now.

Per Hawks reporter Kevin Chouinard:

Indeed, Hunter's father is looking at him with proud eyes. The 6-foot-7 forward will be joining a rebuilding Hawks team which struggled on defense last season. De'Andre Hunter was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year last season; his opponents shot just 32.6 percent with him guarding the ring.

The fourth pick originally belonged to the Los Angeles Lakers, but they included it in a trade package for Anthony Davis. The New Orleans Pelicans then exchanged Nos. 8, 17, and 35 as well as a heavily protected 2020 first-rounder (which previously belonged to the Cleveland Cavaliers) for the No. 4, pick, the No. 57 selection, and veteran forward Solomon Hill to the Hawks.

Apart from his 7'0 wingspan, which he utilizes on defense, Hunter can turn into an elite catch-and-shoot big man, something which every team needs in today's game. He shot 43.8 percent from downtown with Virginia last season — 40.8 percent when wide open and 48.3 percent when closely guarded.

De'Andre Hunter is not seen as the sure thing Zion Williamson (first pick to New Orleans) or Ja Morant (second pick to Memphis) are, but he certainly has the upside which could make Atlanta's big draft-night trade become a masterstroke.
