Atlanta Hawks center Dewayne Dedmon sustained a left ankle injury during a workout last week, and a subsequent X-ray and MRI test revealed an avulsion fracture, according to the team.

Dedmon is slated to be re-evaluated in one week to assess his recovery moving forward.

The 7-footer started for the majority of the 2017-18 season, posting career-best numbers with the Hawks of 10.0 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game in 62 appearances.

Dedmon started in 46 of those games due to his new-found ability to shoot the 3 and rebound at a high rate, doing his damage in a mere 24.9 minutes per game. The big man shot 35.5 percent on 3-pointers on 2.3 attempts per game after never making a triple before the 2017-18 season.

The undrafted USC product has bounced through five teams in his first five seasons in the league, but this might just be the landing spot with the opportunity for him. The 29-year-old is expected to win the positional race at center over backups Miles Plumlee and Alex Len.

In tandem with John Collins, Dedmon could be once again slated for decent minutes if he proves healthy enough to start the season after sustaining this injury, with only a few weeks before players start reporting for training camp.
