The Atlanta Hawks suffered their second straight home loss after falling short against the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday. Fortunately, rookie point guard Trae Young continues to be a bright spot on the 18-37 Hawks.

Young finished the game with 11 assists. As a result, he has broken Armond Hill's franchise record for most assists by a rookie in a season:

Despite a slow start by Atlanta, Trae Young was able to get things going with 10 points and seven assists in the first half. He finished the game with 20 points and 11 assists, but Charlotte was able to close out things out down the final stretch with a 129-120 win.

Although Young had made a name for himself as a prolific scorer in college, his playmaking ability has helped him take the league by storm. He currently leads all rookies with 7.5 assists per game. The closest is Dallas Mavericks forward Luka Doncic with 5.5 assists per game. Young's ability to make others around him better has been one of the more pleasant surprises this season.

It is no secret that Atlanta is in the midst of a grueling rebuild. The lack of talent on this roster has led to a heavy workload for Trae Young. While teams usually try to avoid putting too much on a young player's plate so early on, he has proven to be more than up to the task. His development will undoubtedly be the Hawks' main priority moving forward as they build this franchise round him.
