The Atlanta Hawks have been soaring ever since Nate McMillan took over as interim coach. After a 14-20 start to the season, the franchise hit the reset button at the head coaching position, getting rid of Lloyd Pierce and making McMillan the interim head coach.

Atlanta would go on to finish the regular season 27-11 under McMillan and the Hawks earned the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference. They breezed by the Knicks in round one of the NBA playoffs and are now set to take on the Sixers. On Friday, Trae Young was asked about the “interim” label on McMillan.

The Hawks' superstar guard appeared on The Big Tigger Morning Show on WVEE and via Jordan Cohn, this is what Young said.

“I'm not surprised they haven't announced because, I don't know, it could become a distraction. I think everybody kind of knows what's going to be coming. We're all winning, so it's not anything that I feel like he should be worried about or anything like that.

“It's just the timing. We're in the playoffs, it's the end of the season. I don't think it's something they want to take away from the team right now. I mean, obviously, he's done a great job with helping us turn this around, so I'd be surprised if he's not with us next year.” – Trae Young on The Big Tigger Morning Show.

Young saying this is certainly not eyebrow raising, what would be is if the Hawks opted not bring McMillan back after all the successes Atlanta has had with him as the interim coach.

The Hawks will look to pull off an upset in the Eastern Conference semifinals and with the way Trae Young has been playing, it's plausible to imagine a scenario in which Atlanta gets the job done.
