Atlanta Hawks rookie point guard Trae Young got off to a slow start this season, and the critics were ready to call him a bust.

As he's done his entire life, though, Young blocked out all the outside noise and just worked on his craft day in and day out. He didn't care that Dallas Mavericks rookie phenom Luka Doncic was getting all the hype and praise from the media. The Texas native just kept his head down and controlled what he could control.

Now, 58 games into his NBA career, Trae Young has had his ups and downs, but there's been more ups lately. The 20-year-old is averaging 16.9 points and 7.6 assists per game on the season and says he has grown “tremendously” from the day he got drafted to where he is now.

“I think I’ve played really well, actually,” Young told Bill Difilippo of Uproxx. “I’ve grown tremendously. I’ve progressed in the right direction, I feel like. From game one of Summer League to now, I think I’ve grown a lot, learned a lot, and just gotten better overall.”

Young has 18 double-doubles on the season and is first among all rookies in assists per game. He's not shooting the ball as well as he wants to, but he is confident his shooting percentage will rise as the season moves along.

The fifth overall pick in the 2018 Draft is shooting 40.6 percent from the field and 31.2 percent from beyond the arc.
