If the Atlanta Hawks get the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, the franchise would reportedly pass on Murray State point guard Ja Morant and select Texas Tech small forward Jarrett Culver, according to Sean Deveney of Sporting News.

Duke star Zion Williamson is widely expected to be the No. 1 overall pick. The Hawks don't need a point guard like Morant because they already have Trae Young.

If the Hawks land at No. 2, they won't draft Morant. League sources told SN last week that, heading into the process, the Hawks favor Texas Tech wing Jarrett Culver, believing that his blend of athleticism and defensive prowess will make for a smooth transition to the league and that he can develop enough of a 3-point shot to be effective in the NBA.

Culver averaged 18.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.7 assists this season at Texas Tech. He shot 46.1 percent from the field, 30.4 percent from beyond the arc and 70.7 percent from the free-throw line.

The Hawks are building their franchise around Young, power forward John Collins and shooting guard Kevin Huerter. If they add Culver to the mix, the Hawks would have a nice young core for the future which head coach Lloyd Pierce could develop into a fearsome foursome.
