Atlanta Hawks big man John Collins has yet to sign a contract extension with the team as he heads to the fourth season of his young playing career in the league. If both sides fail to get a deal done in the near future, it is expected that a lot of teams will be swooping in for a bid to acquire his services.

“The question I think a lot of people are monitoring around the league is where are those extension talks with John Collins and the Hawks? John is a guy that I know other teams around the league have monitored closely because they are enamored with his talent. If a guy like that became available, he would command a lot in trade talks.”

The former Wake Forest product has already made a name for himself as one of the league's best young big man talents. His consistent improvement throughout the years has already made him a vital piece of the Hawks' young core moving forward.

In his third campaign with the team last season, he averaged career-best numbers of 21.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game through 41 appearances. However, his season was marred by a lingering shoulder injury along with a violation of the league's anti-drug policy which caused him to be on the sidelines for 25 games.

With Collins expected to hit restricted free agency in the 2021 offseason, the Hawks are already being pressured to offer him an extension to stay with the team sooner than later. Nonetheless, they still have another year to evaluate whether they would like to keep him for the long run or trade him for other assets instead.
