“The View” co-host and Emmy-award-winning legal journalist Sunny Hostin is set to speak at Jackson State University this Fall, per a statement by the institution. Hostin will be the keynote speaker at the upcoming Mary E. Peoples Scholarship Luncheon. This highly anticipated event will take place on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the Jackson Convention Complex in downtown Jackson.
The Mary E. Peoples Scholarship Luncheon is named after Mary E. Peoples, the wife of Jackson State’s sixth president, Dr. John A. Peoples Jr. The luncheon aims to raise $150,000. The proceeds will support the Mary E. Peoples Endowed Scholarship, which provides essential financial assistance to deserving students.
Mary E. Peoples and her husband have made numerous contributions to the local community, making numerous civic contributions over the years. Per a statement from Jackson State, the luncheon is meant to celebrate her lasting legacy and carry forward her spirit of humanitarianism. The First Lady of Jackson State traditionally serves as the event’s co-chair, ensuring the luncheon’s success and alignment with the university’s mission.

She has penned two New York Times bestselling books, adding to her impressive repertoire. Hostin’s influence extends beyond the small screen, as she has been a beacon of inspiration for many, including the graduates of North Carolina A&T, where she delivered the commencement address in Spring 2022 and was honored with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.
Hostin's debut novel “Summer on the Bluffs,” the first in her “Summer” trilogy, soared to the 11th spot on the New York Times Bestseller List. It is currently being adapted as the inaugural major project for Sunny Hostin Productions in collaboration with Octavia Spencer's Orit Entertainment. She recently unveiled the second installment of her acclaimed ‘Summer' series, “Summer on Sag Harbor,” which quickly became a bestseller on the NY Times list.
