Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert was declared out for at least four weeks due to a bone bruise. Gobert sustained the injury last Friday against the Miami Heat when guard Dion Waiters dove for a loose ball in the third quarter and hit the center's right knee.

Initially, Gobert’s injury didn’t look serious enough to get him sidelined for long, as he was able to return to the floor in the fourth quarter, finishing the game with 12 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocks in 35 minutes of action. He missed the following game, however, a 114-106 Utah win over the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday before being ruled out for an extended time.

When asked about the injury, Gobert was critical of Waiter’s intention, saying it was a dirty move on the part of Waiters.

After being informed of Gobert’s comment, Waiters was quick to defend his character, saying that he had no intention of hurting the Jazz’s center during the play, per Andre Fernandez of The Miami Herald.

“I’ve never been a dirty player in my life,” Waiters said Sunday prior to the Heat’s game against the Pistons in Detroit. “I went for the ball. Tell him to get out of his feelings. And that’s what it is, just like that.”

Gobert’s temporary loss means that the Jazz’s frontcourt will now be anchored by Derrick Favors with Ekpe Udoh and Tony Bradley both bound to get a significant bump in minutes.

On the season, Gobert is putting up 13.9 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game.
