Miami Heat star Tyler Herro is fresh off a Sixth Man of the Year award season. The 22-year-old guard has established himself as a prominent scorer in today's NBA. In his third season in the league, Herro averaged just under 21 points per game on 45 percent field goal and 40 percent three-point shooting. Many expected Herro to earn a max contract following his strong performance. However, that may end up not happening for the young star.

Bleacher Report's Jake Fischer stated that Miami will offer an extension worth $25 million dollars in average annual value. But is this a fair offer?

Herro labored mightily during the 2021-2022 NBA postseason. But he has displayed an ability to perform well in big games in the past. Herro was a huge factor in the Heat's 2020 NBA Finals run.

But dishing out max contract value to a Sixth Man is risky. The Heat likely want to see him in a starting role before committing big money to him. And Herro has been vocal about wanting to start next season.

“Yeah for sure. In some way I would like to start,” Herro said. “It’s my fourth year, I think I’ve earned it. We’ll see what happens.”

His comments in reference to a contract extension with the Heat were short and vague.

“We’ll see what happens,” Herro said.

Tyler Herro is an important part of Miami's roster. There will be arguments for and against a max contract extension. Regardless of how much money he ends up making, there is no question Herro is one of the NBA's brightest young stars.
