Miami Heat forward Andre Iguodala is no stranger to physical play in the NBA Playoffs. But it looks like he let his emotions get the best of him in a rebound tussle in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Friday night.

Early in the fourth quarter, he and Boston Celtics center Daniel Theis were jostling for a rebound after a three-point miss by Marcus Smart. Both were battling hard with arms flailing around. When it appeared he got elbowed on the chin, Iguodala retaliated and shoved his right forearm into the face of Theis.

The referees failed to call it live but after a review, the 36-year-old Andre Iguodala was only called for a common foul and a technical foul despite the hit being on Theis’ head. Jayson Tatum sank the free throw to extend their advantage to 93-85. That ignited a quick 14-6 run as the Celtics erected a 16-point lead, their highest of the game.

It proved to be enough for the boys from Beantown as they scored a convincing 121-108 win to force Game 6 and keep their hopes alive. Theis, who also doesn’t shy away from physical play, delivered another impressive performance with a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds. He also added three blocks.

Iguodala, who is looking to play in his sixth straight NBA Finals, ended up with two points, four boards, and two rejections. He’s been trying to replicate his off-the-bench role with the Golden State Warriors, providing defense and veteran leadership for the relatively young Heat squad. He, however, is only averaging 16.5 minutes in the series.
