The Miami Heat deservedly retired Dwyane Wade's jersey on Friday night. Unfortunately, LeBron James did not make the trip to Miami to support his best friend as the Los Angeles Lakers had a game scheduled that same evening.

To make up for his absence, James sent in a very special video message for the Heat legend as the organization raised number 3 in the rafters of the American Airlines Arena.

The Lakers legend said it was inevitable that the Heat would retire D-Wade's jersey when they selected him fifth overall in the 2003 NBA Draft. It was the same draft that saw the Cleveland Cavaliers pick James No. 1. In addition, James went on to suggest how Wade's eventual statue would look like in South Beach.

James and Wade definitely share a special bond with each other to this day. Of course, coming from the same draft class already built the foundation of their lifelong friend.

The two became fierce competitors early in their careers before going on to become teammates in Miami. LeBron and D-Wade formed one of the greatest trios in NBA history along with Chris Bosh. Together, the Miami Heat Big 3 made the Finals four straight times and won back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013.

Their relationship extends beyond the court and now to their sons, Bronny James Jr. and Zaire Wade, who both play for Sierra Canyon High School.

Now that Wade is deservedly immortalized in Miami, it's also inevitable at this point that James also gets his No. 6 jersey retired in the future. James won two titles, a pair of Finals MVPs, and a couple of regular season MVPs with the Heat.
