The Boston Celtics host the Miami Heat for Game 2 after a blowout win in the opener. Let's continue our NBA odds series with a Heat-Celtics prediction and pick for Game 2.

The Heat entered this series knowing their chances would be slim without star Jimmy Butler available for the series after hurting his knee in the first Play-In game against the Philadelphia 76ers. To make matters worse, point guard Terry Rozier, who they traded for at the trade deadline from the Charlotte Hornets, is dealing with a neck injury and it's unknown when he will return to the lineup. The former Celtic averaged 19.8 points and 5.8 assists per game this season and is a huge asset to the team. After losing Game 1, the Heat need to show that they can be more competitive in this game to give them confidence as they then head back home to Miami.

The Celtics know they have to take this Heat squad seriously even without Butler and Rozier. Miami is well-coached and they have enough firepower to make things tough for the Celtics. These two teams know each other very well. Expect the Heat to turn it up a notch for Game 2. If the Celtics stay composed and not let Miami get in their heads, then Boston should take control of the series and head to Miami up 2-0.

Why The Heat Could Cover The Spread/Win

The Heat showed signs of life early in the Game 1 contest as they kept the store close. However, the Celtics began to pull away once the second quarter started. A 14-point third quarter by the Heat is what ultimately ended the chances of Miami stealing a win. At the end of the day, there isn't much they can do defensively to shut down the Celtics with their current game plan. Boston attempts more than 40 threes a game and shot 22-49 in the win. Eric Spoelstra must find a way to contain the deep shots as the Celtics torch teams with open looks from beyond the arc.

As difficult as it might be, the Heat must find a way to match the Celtics rhythm from deep. Miami has the shooters to do it. Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, Delon Wright, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kevin Love, Nikola Jovic, and even Bam Adebayo can knock down the three-ball. Robinson and Herro are two of the best shooters in the game. Wright shot 5-5 from deep in Game 1. It ended up not making a difference, but if Wright continues to shoot well and the other shooters get hot, then Miami can keep this game close and cover a 14.5 spread. Their chances of winning are slim to none, but keeping this within 15 points is manageable for the Heat.

Why The Celtics Could Cover The Spread/Win

In Game 1, the Celtics led by 30 late and pretty much let their foot off the gas pedal from that point on. They still won by 20, but allowed 35 points in the 4th quarter. We all know the Heat are not going to quit and will play a full 48 minutes, winning or not. If the Celtics are up 20 heading into the 4th quarter for Game 2, I like the Heat's chances of covering this spread. Boston will need to be up by 25 or more points heading into the 4th quarter to feel comfortable about them covering. I don't expect the Celtics to shoot 45% from deep again in this game.

All eight players who played in the opener hit a three and all hit more than one outside of Tatum. Tatum didn't have his best night offensively but had his first career playoff triple-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. If the Celtics do repeat their performance from beyond the arc then they will cover this spread and cruise to a Game 2 win.

Final Heat-Celtics Prediction & Pick

The outcome is tough to decide. The Celtics covering this spread seems to be the more likely scenario as they are at home and playing very well. I also expect the Heat to score the rock a little better in this game. I have a feeling this contest has a lot of what Game 1 showed on Sunday morning. Take the C's to cover, while taking the over at 204 as well.
