Charlotte Hornets big man Bismack Biyombo is using his platform to good use. He is part of the ‘Child of Africa’ campaign that aims to bring opportunities at life to disadvantaged children around Africa.

Biyombo also played as co-captain in the NBA Africa game which pitted players of African descent against a mix of players from different parts of the world. Although Team Africa lost to the tune of 96-92 against Danilo Gallinari led Team World, there are more reasons for Biyombo to celebrate especially after achieving an amazing feat.

The 6'9 center has his own foundation, the Bismack Biyombo Foundation, and recently served as co-founder of Kivu International School, which aims to help youth development through education and sports. He can't help but beam with pride as he expressed satisfaction over the realization of a life-long dream.

Because of his contributions, he was awarded in the recently concluded BET awards, specifically the BET International’s Global Good Award for the month of June. In an article by Emmanuel Tjiya for Sowetan Live, Bismack Biyombo values the importance of getting the message across.

“It was great for me because BET has given us a platform where we can speak about certain issues and be the voice for others. For me I don’t think I can praise myself for getting this award here and another award there,” he coyly said.

Biyombo joins the list of NBA players who pledged to help to educate the youth. LeBron James unveiled his ‘I Promise' school in Akron, Ohio while Chris Paul donated $2.5 million to Wake Forest University. Derrick Rose also launched his high school scholarship fund which will award more than $400,000 in tuition money.

Here's to hoping other players follow suit. Congratulations once again to Biyombo!
