The Charlotte Hornets have provided a timely update on the injury status of rookie sensation LaMelo Ball, and we can't help but get all excited about the news.

According to a report by Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, Ball is now able to resume basketball activities:

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski also confirmed that LaMelo could actually return to the court within the next week or so:

Ball underwent surgery on his fractured right wrist in late March and he was supposed to get re-evaluated in four weeks' time. It looks like he's already had further tests done and the results have been extremely encouraging.

After Ball suffered the hand injury on his shooting hand in March, the general belief was that he was done for the season. The Hornets never ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign though, which made us believe that there was a small chance that he was going to be able to come back this term.

True enough, Ball now appears to have blown through his recovery and could now return to action much sooner than initially expected. Nothing is set in stone right now, however, and the Hornets' prized rookie will still need to overcome a few hurdles before he is actually cleared to play.

This comes at an opportune time for the Hornets, who themselves are looking to secure their spot for the playoffs. As of Monday afternoon, Charlotte is precariously sitting at the eighth spot in the conference, with just two games separating them and the ninth-placed Indiana Pacers. It's going to be a tough road ahead for the Hornets, but the potential return of Ball will certainly boost their postseason hopes.
