The Charlotte Hornets are considering signing Elfrid Payton, TJ McConnell, Ish Smith and Emmanuel Mudiay in free agency, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The Hornets are losing All-Star point guard Kemba Walker to the Boston Celtics.

The Hornets look really bad right now. They're about to lose their franchise player for nothing. Charlotte should have traded Walker at the February trade deadline so they could have gotten something in return for Kemba.

Now, the Hornets are left with trying to replace one of the best guards in the game with third-tier point guards. Payton, McConnell, Smith and Mudiay aren't players who are going to help Charlotte win games in 2019-20.

In the end, the Hornets failed Walker. They never surrounded the guard with enough talent to win. Walker only made the playoffs twice with Charlotte since entering the league back in 2011. Kemba never played with another All-Star either.

Payton is probably the best player out of the group of players the Hornets are looking at. He averaged 10.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 7.6 assists this past season with the New Orleans Pelicans while shooting 43.4 percent from the field and 31.4 percent from beyond the arc.

Hornets fans can't be too pleased with owner Michael Jordan and general manager Mitch Kupchak right about now.
