One of the biggest surprises of the young season is the breakout performance of Charlotte Hornets stud Miles Bridges. He's been quite a revelation during the first few weeks of the campaign and his excellent play has earned him the honor of being named the NBA's Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

As it turns out, however, Bridges himself isn't too surprised by his high level of play. As a matter of fact, he knew coming into the season that this was going to be his year. So much so, that he decided to bet on himself this summer by rejecting a massive extension offer from the Hornets (h/t NBA insider Marc Stein):

Bridges' current deal with the Hornets is coming to an end and he's expected to enter free agency at the end of the season. For their part, the Hornets wanted to keep the 23-year-old in Charlotte, but it is clear that Bridges believed that he was much more valuable than just $15 million per year.

In five games this season, Bridges is averaging 26.2 points on 52.7 percent shooting, 8.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.8 steals, while also connecting on 3.0 triples per game on a 39.-5 percent clip. Those are some lofty numbers right there, and at this point, it looks like the Hornets are going to regret not offering him a bigger deal when they had the opportunity.
