Washington Huskies head coach Jimmy Lake has been suspended without pay for Saturday's game against the Arizona State Sun Devils, AD Jen Cohen announced Monday.

This decision comes after Lake was seen on national television hitting and shoving walk-on linebacker Ruperake Fuavai during Washington's 26-16 loss to Oregon this past weekend. Here's a video of the incident:

Here's Cohen's statement on the suspension:

“Our staff has spent the last 24-plus hours reviewing video of the incident, as well as speaking with Coach Lake, the involved student-athlete and several other student-athletes and members of the staff, and I have made the decision to suspend Coach Lake for next Saturday's game against Arizona State,” said Cohen. “President Cauce, our Faculty Athletics Representative, Alexes Harris, and members of our executive staff are in agreement that while we do not believe that his actions were intentional or deliberate, we can have no tolerance for a coach interacting with a student in the manner Coach Lake did. We have high expectations of conduct for our coaches, and we will not shy away from those expectations.”

Lake tried to defend himself after the game by saying he “separated” Fuavai from the opposing player he was getting into it with, but the video shows that the Huskies coach was overly aggressive with his actions.

Lake previously made waves ahead of the game against the Ducks by insulting Oregon. Then in addition to this hubbub, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach John Donovan got the boot on Sunday.

It has been quite an eventful few weeks for Washington. The Huskies are 4-5 this season.
