When the Boston Celtics went after Al Horford during last year's free agency, they thought of him as their center for the future who could be the inside presence and rebounder they have always wanted. Although he has been doing a decent job in his first season in Beantown, his teammate noticed that he has also been contributing in a different way, by playing a different position effectively.
Isaiah Thomas recently spoke about the 6-foot-11 big man's ability to bring down the ball and setup the plays for their team at times. He gave Horford a lot of credit for his skills playing point guard at times, and adding it's one of the reasons why they really wanted to secure his services a year ago.
In 68 regular season appearances for the C's, Horford averaged 14.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.3 blocks per game. He has been very instrumental to his team's success, which made them the top seed in the Eastern Conference. His rare trait of being a strong rebounder who can quickly bring down the ball in transition, has been showcased throughout the year, and made Boston more dangerous.
The Celtics' main area of concern may still be rebounding as a group, but with their guards more than compensating for their deficiency in that department, it also allows Horford to excel in other facets of the game.
