The Green Bay Packers offense has had their ups and downs this season under Matt LaFleur. For the offense to get back on track, it's time for the real Marquez Valdes-Scantling to stand up for the Packers.

When Green Bay selected Valdes-Scantling in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, they believed that he could become a prominent weapon in the offense. At 6-foot-4, nearly 210 pounds, there's no doubt that Valdes-Scantling has the physical tools to be a talented wideout.

But at the same time, his performance on the field has been extremely inconsistent. Some weeks, he looks like he is unstoppable, while others he is nonexistent.

Last year, Valdes-Scantling combined for 38 receptions for 581 yards and two touchdowns in his rookie campaign. The South Florida product flashed his potential as a deep threat in the Packers' offense with 15.3 yards per reception.

So far this year, Valdes-Scantling has totaled 22 catches, 420 yards, and two scores through the air. Similarly to 2018, he has been a big-play wideout with 19.1 yards per reception (second-most in the NFL).

As good as he's been creating plays down the field, there are still games where he essentially disappears in. Valdes-Scantling has two games where he has exceeded 90 yards for the Packers.

However, over the past two weeks, Valdes-Scantling has only mustered up one reception for four yards. In addition, the second-year wide receiver has only caught 53.7 percent of his targets. This comes after he caught only 52.1 percent of his targets in 2018.

Yes, there are moments where Aaron Rodgers isn't able to give him a catchable ball. But for the most part, Rodgers is one of the most accurate quarterbacks in the NFL and the ball is within the catching radius of Valdes-Scantling.

Even while Davante Adams was out with an injury from Weeks 5-8, Valdes-Scantling accumulated only six receptions, 203 yards, and a touchdown. It's impressive to see his 33.8 yards per reception but he's going to need to do more than just deep passes.

The Packers lost in embarrassing fashion in Week 9 to the Los Angeles Chargers. The offense totaled 184 yards of offense and was outscored 26-11 by Los Angeles.

Despite their latest loss, Green Bay still sits atop the NFC North with a 7-2 record. But for them to secure the division, they are going to need more from their wide receivers outside of Adams.

That means that Valdes-Scantling is going to have to begin his ascension as the team's No. 2 wide receiver. The athletically gifted wide receiver will get a chance to prove his worth in Week 10 against the Carolina Panthers.
