Entering this summer's free agency, J.J. Redick was expected to receive a lot of interest from teams around the league as one of the better shooting guards available. These predictions came true, as the Philadelphia 76ers, Houston Rockets, and Brooklyn Nets, among others, expressed their intention to sign him. He ultimately agreed to a one-year deal with the Sixers, but if his wife had it her way, he would've ended up else where.

In the first episode of his new podcast, the Chronicles of Redick on Uninterrupted, he revealed that his wife Chelsea wanted him to sign with the Nets instead. However, the arrival of D'Angelo Russell would've likely meant he wouldn't be a starter there, which made his decision easier despite owning a condo nearby.

“The one team for Chelsea was the Nets. I was certainly interested in the Nets. I love what they’re building there… But once they were kind of off the table, it created a little bit of chaos.”

As it turned out, his one-year, $23 million deal was more than what was projected by experts as his market value. He will have the opportunity to play a big role for his new teams their veteran leader. The 76ers have a core of young players, so his playoff experience should come in handy and he can share a lot of what he has learned over the past seasons with his teammates.

It would've been interesting to see him play for the Nets, but it appears that he's happy with his decision and that his wife has already accepted it. The Sixers should be very exciting to watch, and with a knock down shooter like Redick in the fold, fans are looking forward to watching them play; especially the Philly faithful, who believe that they can make it to the playoffs this coming season.
