The Jacksonville Jaguars have ushered in some significant turnover to their roster this offseason. Fortunately, it appears they are now a step closer to filling another void in their personnel.

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the Jaguars are nearing a deal with former Cincinnati Bengals tight end Tyler Eifert:

The Jaguars and former Bengals first-round TE Tyler Eifert are working diligently towards closing a deal, source said. If completed, it would be another free agent move in Jax to fill a spot that plagued them last year — and one that coach Doug Marrone really wanted.

It is no secret that the Jaguars are in the midst of a grueling rebuild after parting ways with several key starters on both sides of the ball over the last year. Regardless, they are still in need of more firepower for quarterback Gardner Minshew to work with in the passing game.

Eifert came into the league as a first-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft by the Bengals. Although he managed to show plenty of promise as a complete tight end, injuries have largely kept him from reaching his potential.

Despite the concerns about his durability, Eifert is coming off his healthiest year yet after playing in all 16 games for the first time in his career. He finished the 2019 NFL season with 43 receptions for 436 yards and three touchdowns while playing a modest role in Cincinnati's lackluster offense.

Perhaps the change of scenery could be just what he needs to help him build on his newfound health.
