People tend to forget about Utah Jazz big man Derrick Favors. Once a third-overall pick by the New Jersey Nets back in the 2010 NBA Draft, Favors’ career has bobbed up and down since due to injuries and adjustments made by his team. This season, however, Favors is playing great basketball, as he is probably spurred by the fact that he’s on the last season of a four-year contract extension he signed with the Jazz back in 2013.

Under that circumstance, Favors knows full well that he could be a favorite subject as the trade deadline nears. That said, the 26-year-old power forward would rather prioritize helping the Jazz above worrying about his immediate future, per Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports.

But for now, Favors is determined to keep helping the Jazz. “I let my agent, Wallace Prather, talk to Utah and talk around the league, I just focus on myself,” he said. “I’m aware of the talks, and the value I have, but I just focus on the opportunity I have now, and I know I can help whichever team I’m playing on in this league.

“I’m not taking the opportunity in front of me for granted.”

Favors, who landed in Salt Lake City in 2011, when he was shipped by the Nets to Utah along with Devin Harris and a couple of first-round picks for Deron Williams, has been an important piece for the Jazz this season, especially now that the team is temporarily without Rudy Gobert due to an injury.

So far this season, Favors is averaging 13.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game, but has upped those numbers to 16.8 and 8.8, respectively, in the last nine contests minus Gobert.

So long as Favors plays like this, he’ll likely always be going to get attention from teams looking for frontcourt help, but it’ll be up to Utah how they’ll deal with it. For Favors, he just has to take care of business on the court.
