Despite only playing in his first season in the NBA, Donovan Mitchell is already emerging as the go-to-guy for the Utah Jazz especially in late-game situations. On Sunday, he was once again tasked by head coach Quin Snyder to take the biggest shot of the game.

With only 5.1 seconds remaining, Mitchell received an inbound pass in the backcourt before attacking and attempting a running jumper. However, he was double-teamed by Miami Heat defenders, which made it very difficult for Mitchell to knock down the shot, eventually failing to play the role of hero for the Jazz.

He may have missed the potential game-winner, but the defensive attention that Donovan Mitchell attracted only goes to show how much his scoring ability is being respected by their opponents. He is having a very good rookie year with impressive averages of 18.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.5 steals in 31.1 minutes per game. More importantly, he is proving that he deserves to be in the conversation when it comes to the top candidates for the Rookie of the Year award. He is definitely giving Jazz fans plenty of reasons to be excited about their team's future.

With Gordon Hayward no longer part of the Jazz, Donovan Mitchell is filling in nicely for the team. If he continues playing this well, the future would definitely be bright for the Jazz, who would have the opportunity to be a contender in the coming years as long as Mitchell improves his game as he matures.

Mitchell led all scorers in this game with 27 markers.
