Boris Diaw announced his retirement from basketball and his fellow French man Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz sent out a heartfelt message.

Via his Twitter account, Gobert thanked Diaw for being an inspiration and a teammate:

Diaw, 36 years old, spent 16 years in the league. In 2006 with the Phoenix Suns, he was crowned Most Improved Player where he logged in a stellar 13.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game.

Fast forward to the 2013-14 season, Diaw won his first championship with the San Antonio Spurs. He helped the Spurs beat the powerhouse Miami Heat team led by LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. In their postseason run, Diaw averaged 9.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per contest.

The French man announced his retirement via Twitter:

Diaw began gaining major attention during his stint with the Suns. He was among the essential players in the Suns' high-octane offense led by Steve Nash and Mike D'Antoni.

After his stint with the Suns, Diaw played for the Charlotte Bobcats. Though he flourished individually, the team found little success and Diaw's fame and stock value seemingly diminished. It was also this time where Diaw gained some weight and it affected his game.

But his career was revived when he was acquired by the Spurs. Though he didn't put up great numbers, he was still a critical component of the Gregg Popovich system. Due to his hefty body and passing ability, the Spurs regularly set up plays for him to operate in the post against relatively smaller defenders.
