Utah Jazz big man Rudy Gobert caught some flak recently after mistakenly re-sharing a post he believed was made by tennis star Serena Williams.

The original post — which was political in nature — actually came from a white woman with the same name as the tennis icon. For what it's worth, the said Serena clarified on her profile that she's not THE Williams that everybody knows.

What's surprising, however, is the fact that the message shared by Gobert runs contrary to NBA players being more vocal with respect to social issues. The Jazz big man has since deleted the tweet.

As expected, however, the internet is undefeated in this kind of stuff. Rudy Gobert was eventually trolled heavily as screenshots of his tweet spread online.

As for the Jazz, it's worth noting that Donovan Mitchell has been particularly expressive on social media as of late. Mitchell posted on Instagram for Juneteenth, only to receive backlash on the said picture before questioning whether fans appreciate athletes as humans, as opposed to just showmen.

Players around the league have been unabashed in their activism. Many have marched and even led protests against police brutality and racial inequality. In fact, the Milwaukee Bucks organization sponsored such a march earlier this month.

Gobert has had a rough go of things the last few months. The Jazz center made jokes about precautions taken by the league during the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic, just before his own positive test eventually resulted in the league shutting down.

The Jazz All-Star can be forgiven for childishness, but this latest incident will not likely do him any favors.
