The Utah Jazz have been ravaged by injuries to key contributors on the roster this season, which is a trend that has continued on Saturday afternoon.

According to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports, veteran guard Thabo Sefolosha is set to undergo season-ending surgery on his MCL in his right knee.

The 33-year-old had suffered the injury in the second quarter of Friday's 99-88 loss to the Charlotte Hornets. It puts an end to his first season with the Jazz where he averaged 8.2 points on 49.2 percent shooting from the field an 38.1 percent from beyond the arc with 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game while making 38 appearances with six starts.

Sefolosha provided much stability defensively for Utah while being a reliable scoring asset recording at least 10 points 15 times and double-digit rebounds twice along with notching a pair of double-doubles. His absence could push a more significant workload onto veteran guards Joe Johnson and Rodney Hood. Meanwhile, it means an increased offensive role for breakout rookie guard Donovan Mitchell, who leads all first-year players in scoring with 18.8 points per game along with 17 outings with 20 or more points.

The Jazz are also dealing with a significant injury to rising star center Rudy Gobert, who has played in just 18 games this season. He is currently out dealing with a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and a bone bruise that he suffered on Dec. 15. Gobert is expected to miss at least another week due to the ailment.

In the meantime, Utah has struggled to find any consistency on the court sitting at a 17-25 record after dropping seven out of their last 10 games including four out of their last five contests. They also hold a league-worst 4-18 mark on the road despite being fifth in the league with 101.7 points per game allowed.

All of this could result in some shuffling on the roster to push them in the right direction heading into the second half of the season.
