Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell had to be helped off the court during Friday's matchup against the Indiana Pacers. The 24-year-old suffered what appears to be a serious ankle injury which could place him on the sidelines for an extended period.

Mitchell's peers from around the NBA have since rallied behind the Jazz star as they offer their support in the wake of his recent injury:

Mitchell suffered the injury early in the third quarter on Friday. He appeared to have landed awkwardly on his right foot after going for a steal, and the Jazz star immediately grabbed his ankle as soon as he landed. Mitchell was clearly in pain and he could not put any weight on the ankle so he had to be helped off the court by his teammates.

According to reports, initial X-rays have come out clean. There appears to be no structural damage, which is obviously a positive development in this respect. Mitchell is not completely out of the woods yet, though, with the 6-foot-1 combo guard expected to undergo more tests on Saturday.

The Jazz faithful are holding their collective breath right now. The best-case scenario here is that Mitchell spends a couple of games on the sidelines. However, based on how he reacted to the injury, it is also very much possible that he ends up missing a significant amount of time. Losing their best player for an extended period would be an undeniably tough blow for the league-best Jazz as well as their championship aspirations this season.
