The Utah Jazz are back in business. No, they haven’t made any roster moves that make them a championship contender. But what they have done is unveil arguably the best uniforms in the NBA, using key elements of the best uniforms they’ve ever had: the mountains and the color purple.

After a two-season rebrand with black and yellow as their main colors, the Jazz have announced that they are things up once again. Although they will keep their current uniforms in place for their white “Association” uniforms and “Statement” threads to start the 2024-25 season, they will transition to a new statement jersey after New Year's and lean fully into purple, blue and black as their color scheme with new uniforms starting two seasons from now.

The Jazz are referring to their new get-up as an “evolution” of their look, according to Andrew Lopez of ESPN. With such a new branding coming in, Utah is making a firm pivot into a new era.

“We know the purple pops,” Jazz owner Ryan Smith said, via ESPN. “It's how a lot of people know us. It's not simple because you have a couple other teams that have a couple other variations of purple. Making this our own has been what we've been working on.”

The uniforms that Keyonte George and Walker Kessler are wearing will be put into circulation starting in the 2025-26 season. The uniform that Taylor Hendricks is wearing will be the new statement uniform that will be introduced in the middle of the 2024-25 season and be used again the next season. The uniform that Lauri Markkanen is wearing will be the Jazz's city edition uniform for the 25-25 campaign. A new city edition for 2025-26 will be announced at a later date.

New Jazz uniforms celebrated after not-so-great rebrand to black and yellow

Also included in the Jazz's announcement are logo adjustments. The primary logo will simply be the note with a basketball and will not feature the words “Utah Jazz” underneath it anymore. The secondary logos include a new logo that reads “Utah” in a font reminiscent of the 1990s era (which is used on the jerseys), the note logo with the words “Utah Jazz basketball” written in a circle and an outline of the state of Utah with basketball lines.

This change was very much needed. When the Jazz ditched their blue, green and yellow branding in 2022, they replaced it with a minimalistic design that used basic colors and a bright, weird shade of yellow. The jerseys looked totally uninspiring and were instantly hated. But after bringing back the John Stockton-Karl Malone era jerseys and then rehashing them last season, it was clear that the purple and the mountain made for the best Jazz uniforms.

The Jazz finished last season with a record of 31-51 and are building for the future. They have a lot of assets to retool and revamp their roster going forward as well as a nice group of young players. Whoever takes the court for them will be doing it in style.
