After a stellar campaign last year, the Utah Jazz will be entering the new season as a formidable contender in the talent-packed Western Conference. However, it appears that the Jazz will need to shell out a significant amount of cash this season in the form of incentives for their players.

As explained by Bobby Marks of ESPN, the Jazz have a total of 11 players on their roster who have some sort of performance-based cash incentive attached to their contracts.

For instance, big man Derrick Favors will need to be at his best this season if he hopes to cash in on his incentives.

“Derrick Favors has $2.8 million in incentives, $900,000 of which are deemed likely,” writes Marks. “There is a total of $650,000 broken into three different incentives that take into account total minutes played divided by rebounds, assists and blocks. Favors must appear in 67 games or more to be eligible for each incentive.”

For guard Dante Exum, his year-end bonuses will be highly-dependent on his ability to stay healthy.

“If Exum can stay healthy and appear in 67 games, the guard will earn an additional $200,000. Playing more than 72 games will see him receive another $200,000. Exum will also receive $100,000 if his defensive rating is below 100 in a minimum of 67 games played.”

Raul Neto, the team's fourth-year point guard, also has certain cash-based incentives tied to his current deal.

“Raul Neto has a $50,000 unlikely bonus for games played (67), minutes (600) and a defensive rating less than 100.”

Despite potentially having to spend a fortune on incentives, the Jazz are still likely to remain within the league's salary cap.
