Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell joined the much-discussed Zoom call on Friday. It was revealed that the 23-year-old was one of the many players who were unwilling to participate in the league's Florida bubble, and that Mitchell's primary motivation for the same is how a potential injury might have an adverse effect on his contract negotiations in the upcoming offseason.

This report is via Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes:

Mitchell, who is up for an extension this offseason, explained he's concerned with returning to play and injuring himself and thus jeopardizing his opportunity for a max deal, sources said.

Multiple sources claim that the two primary reasons why players are hesitant to take part in the resumption of the season are the threat of the coronavirus and the issue of systemic racism in the country. Neither seems to be Donovan Mitchell's main motivation, as he is looking to take care of himself and his money above everything else, at it seems.

It is unclear why Mitchell fears there will be a bigger risk of him getting injured during the bubble. Perhaps he is concerned about the lengthy layoff and the lack of physical preparation for the continuation of the campaign might have adverse effects on his body's conditioning.

What is clear, however, is that Mitchell is more inclined towards not playing in Orlando. Whether or not he — and everyone else, for that matter — will actually have a choice to boycott the bubble is an altogether different matter. This issue should gain more clarity over the next couple of days, and we will be sure to pass along any information as they come along.
