Teams around the NFL are taking precautions in case players test positive for COVID-19 during the 2020 season. Some teams are also taking extra precautions for the coaching staff as well. Adam Gase, the head coach of the New York Jets, revealed that the team has a ‘depth chart' for coaches in the event that one of them contracts COVID-19.

“That’s something that we actually started talking about in April,” Gase said. “I’ve looked at it as we almost have a depth chart for myself, the coordinator spots. We talked about position coaches, kind of where that would go. So, a depth chart was really created.

At first, Gase's plan was centered around the coordinators and position coaches on the team. However, the second-year head coach of the Jets believes it is important that the entire coaching staff is on the same page.

“Now it’s the whole staff. We all have to be on the same page,” Gase said. “Guys have to understand, you don’t know, you might be the next play caller, whether it be offense, defense or special teams, so everybody’s got to prepare like that.

Seeing that the 2020 season is filled with uncertainty, teams are manufacturing ideas on how to combat COVID-19. With the quarterback position being vital to a team's success, some teams have discussed quarantining a quarterback in case the starter tests positive.

Coaches, not just players, could be at risk of producing a positive test during the upcoming season. When or if that happens, Gase wants to make sure the Jets are prepared for anything.
