Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells has been impressed with how New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold has handled himself since coming into the league. Parcells knows that having success in New York can be tough, but thinks Darnold focusing on winning is going to make him special.

“I know Sam a little bit,” Hall of Fame coach Bill Parcells said recently via The New York Post. “I like him. I think he’s a tough guy. You know what I like about him? He’s not ready to be a star. He just wants to play.”

Parcells worked with Darnold and Josh Allen leading up to the draft, and gave him some tips on how to make it in the league. Parcells noticed right away just how mature Darnold is, and that is something that is important dealing with the New York media and fans.

The Hall of Fame coach also knows that Darnold is willing to make the sacrifices to be a great NFL quarterback, and sometimes that includes not doing other things that the “stars” are doing.

“That’s very important,” Parcells said. “Half of them come into the league and they’re ready to be a star but they’re not ready to pay the price to be a quarterback.”

During Darnold's rookie season, he showed some glimpses of a great quarterback, but he also showed some signs that he needed to improve.

The hope is after another season in the Jets offseason training program, Darnold can be even better this year.
