Darelle Revis signed a one-day contract on Tuesday with the New York Jets to officially retire from the NFL and spend his last day in the league with the team he spent most of his career with.

The seven-time Pro Bowler spent all but 37 games during his career in the Green and White and for Revis, it wasn't enough. He wishes he would have spent his entire career in the Big Apple.

“I would've loved to play my whole career here and wear the green and white until I actually retired,” said Revis, via ESPN. “Things happen, team acquisitions coming in and a different direction the team may want to go. It happens, it really does. That's how I sum it up. It happens.”

“Revis Island” will go down as one of the best Jets to ever play the game and as one of the best secondary members of any NFL team.

Week in and week out, Revis would be on the opponents' best wide receiver and every week he would shut down that player. Better yet, the Jets didn't have to use any players to help him in coverage because his island only needed to be manned by one guy.

Revis is only 33 years of age but the toll of the NFL took a toll on his body and he knew that he needed to hang it up to save some of his body.

“The assignments I had to face during my career takes a lot of toll on the body, week in and week out,” said Revis. “Every day, my purpose was to not only be the best player at my position, but be the best player on the field. That was my motivation.”
