It feels unnecessary to suggest that the New York Jets are in must-win mode heading into a home matchup against the Houston Texans this Sunday. They are 4-8, losers of five straight and only two games clear of the New England Patriots for last place in the AFC. More of the same in Week 14 and beyond could at least get the team a better draft pick. But this group is in desperate need of a morale booster.

In order to obtain those good vibes, however, the Jets likely require competent quarterback play. The organization released Tim Boyle and are reportedly considering giving back the starting reins to young Zach Wilson. Despite the chatter currently surrounding him, the No. 2 overall selection of the 2021 NFL Draft has received a great amount of support from the recovering Aaron Rodgers.

New York's top wide receiver is also hyping him up. “One thing about Zach is, he's always ready,” Garrett Wilson told “The Insiders” on NFL Network, via Tom Pelissero. “He's excited for any opportunity he gets. With Zach, I have his back 100 percent, everyone on the team feels the same way.”

Is Zach Wilson the right man to lead the Jets rest of the season?

Wilson's rousing endorsement of the 24-year-old QB comes after a recent report that suggested the former BYU star is hesitant to return to the starting role. Jets head coach Robert Saleh denied the notion and Aaron Rodgers took it even further when appearing on The Pat McAfee Show. Garrett Wilson is seemingly doing the same thing here.

Zach Wilson has obviously underachieved in his career, but he has been placed in a highly unfavorable position this season. It is not easy to be relegated to the backup role just a couple years after being tapped to be the next face of the franchise, only to be thrust back into the No. 1 spot after Rodgers suffered a ruptured Achilles in the opening moments of his New York debut.

If he does get the nod this weekend versus the Texans, the confidence expressed by his best offensive weapon could come in handy. For the sake of the fans who are still loyally investing in this team, hopefully the Jets quarterback situation is quickly cleared up.
