The New York Jets are making some moves at the quarterback position, releasing Tim Boyle and signing Brett Rypien off the Seattle Seahawks practice squad, according to NFL insider Josina Anderson.

This comes after more Jets quarterback drama on Monday. It was reported that New York wants to turn back to Zach Wilson after his latest recent benching, but the youngster is reluctant to take the job back. Jets head coach Robert Saleh pushed back on this notion, but it's still unclear exactly what's going on.

Jets quarterback mess

New York's quarterback situation has been a total disaster this season. The Jets had no capable options behind Aaron Rodgers, who suffered a devastating Achilles injury just a few plays into the season. While Rodgers is trying to make a miracle return, New York's dreadful quarterback play has them at 4-8 on the season and well outside the playoff picture. Because of this, there's a good chance Rodgers doesn't actually return.

Zach Wilson's struggles have continued throughout this season, and he was benched for the last two games. Boyle got the start in those games, but he also couldn't get the job done. Trevor Siemian replaced Boyle in the fourth quarter of the Jets' ugly 13-8 loss to the Atlanta Falcons this past Sunday. Siemian didn't fare any better than Wilson or Boyle.

Tim Boyle has ties to Aaron Rodgers, which is a reason why he had a Jets roster spot in the first place. But now New York is moving on after he struggled, paving the way to this Brett Rypien signing. The Jets reportedly had interest in Rypien earlier this season.

Rypien spent the first three seasons of his career with the Denver Broncos and saw limited action with the Los Angeles Rams earlier in 2023. The Rams waived Rypien, who wound up in Seattle as a member of the practice squad. Now he joins the slumping Jets, and we'll see if Saleh turns to him to start against the Houston Texans in Week 14.
