New York Jets safety Jamal Adams has requested a trade from the team, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the team to rushing to move on from him. Adams has made him clear that he wants a contract extension, something that the Jets hasn't offered him yet, which has ruffled his fathers.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, even though Adams has requested a trade, that doesn't mean the team is going to move him. They at this point are actually okay with waiting this out and getting something done later.

With the Coronavirus pandemic, there haven't been many long term deals that have been struck this offseason. At this point according to Rapoport, the Jets want to make sure this upcoming season is going to happen before giving out some big money to Adams. If the Jets did end up trading Adams away, a first-round pick would just be a starting point.

The Jets drafted Adams with the sixth overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft, which means he is still under control for at least two more years. After the 2021 season if the Jets wanted to keep him and didn't want to give him a long-term deal ,they could always franchise tag him — something that Adams probably wouldn't be a fan of.

Even though Adams has requested a trade, it's still clear the ball is in the Jets' court and they hold the control. This is a story that will probably continue to heat up as the season gets closer.
