The newest of New York Jets safeties, J.J. Wilcox, understands just how special this opportunity is. So special, in fact, he's created a new word.

According to Randy Lange of the official New York Jets website, Wilcox called the Jets opportunity “un-turn-down-able.”

“It was a three-way decision. It was the 49ers, the Jets and my family,” Wilcox said, via the team’s website. “We came to a decision that it was best to come here. It was an opportunity that was un-turn-down-able and you’ve just got to take it.”

Wilcox, 27, has played for the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers prior to signing on with the Jets this past offseason. In fact, it looked as though the San Francisco 49ers were his next destination until madness ensued.

Wilcox was actually in the Bay Area prior to receiving word that the Jets wanted to sign him. He left quicker than Johnny on the spot and the main cited reason has come in the form of Jets head coach Todd Bowles, former safety and Super Bowl champion with the Washington Redskins.

“He was a defensive-minded coach, he played the position,” Wilcox said. “When you look at that kind of stuff, you want to go to a guy that knows your position who knows how to make players into great players.”

Wilcox's three-year deal can earn him a total of $1.25 million in 2018. He will serve as the team's third safety, a big-time individual in many sub-packages who'll either roam the box alongside Jamal Adams or play the deep-half with Marcus Maye.
