Before Tuesday's trade deadline, there was a chance that Jamal Adams would no longer be with the New York Jets. Despite the tension between both sides, Adams will play versus the Miami Dolphins, per Ian Rapoport.
While there were no trades going on, there were rumors that the Jets were willing to listen to offers for their Pro-Bowl safety. The news of possibly being traded didn't sit well with Adams—especially since he said that management informed him that he was part of New York's future.
Nevertheless, Adams will still suit up for the Jets in Week 9 and will continue to play with the team for the remainder of the season. However, there's no doubt that his future in New York is in jeopardy beyond 2019.
The Jets drafted Adams with the sixth overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft out of LSU. Since arriving in the NFL, Adams has been one of the best safeties in the league.
In his first 39 starts in the NFL, the LSU product has combined for 236 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, two interceptions, and four forced fumbles. By looking at his performance on the field, you begin to wonder why the Jets were fielding offers for him.
Adams is only in the third year of his rookie contract and can still have his fifth-year option picked up for the 2021 season. At 24 years old, Adams is still going to get better and could be a cornerstone on defense for the Jets.
But with the relationship between Adams and the front office being ruined, there's a chance he is no longer wearing green in 2020.
