Through the first few months of the offseason, there have been several notable NFL free agents still afloat in the open market that could step in to be high impact players with a franchise.

One of those players is veteran safety Kenny Vaccaro, who has been readily available since the New Orleans Saints elected to let him walk in free agency. According to Calvin Watkins of Newsday, the  New York Jets are set to meet with Vaccaro at some point this week.

This is the first strong level of interest in him since the Miami Dolphins had presented him with a one-year deal, but he had decided to move off of that. Aside from that, there hasn't been much chatter around the league for his services in free agency even with training camp now only being just over a week away.

In his first five years in the league all spent with the New Orleans Saints, he developed into one of the better players at his position behind his hard-hitting approach on the field. However, the injury bug has also factored into the equation as he has only played one complete season in his career. He once again dealt with those nagging issues as he saw his 2017 campaign end prematurely due to groin surgery.

The chance to pair Vaccaro alongside Jamal Adams to form a dynamic duo of hard-hitting safeties that could set the tone in the secondary next season. Given that he has remained afloat on the open market, it could lessen the amount of money needed to land the 27-year-old. The Jets have more than enough salary cap space available to make a deal work out with roughly more than $23.5 million remaining this offseason. This could quickly lead to things moving toward a deal being worked out in the coming days between both sides.
