San Francisco 49ers superstar wide receiver Deebo Samuel shocked the league Wednesday when he requested a trade from the franchise. Already, various teams have been linked as potential landing spots for the 26-year-old, with one of the teams at the forefront of the conversation being the New York Jets. According to the NY Daily News, Jets' team sources, while interested in Samuel, have expressed doubts as to whether the 49ers will grant his request and offload him in the offseason.

It makes sense that the Jets would be at the forefront of any market for Samuel after their reported interest in Tyreek Hill, before the speedy wide receiver high-tailed to Miami. However, the Jets don't seem optimistic that a Samuel trade will actually go down this offseason, seeing as the 49ers technically have three more years of control over their versatile superstar.

Any trade for Samuel would cost a team an arm and a leg, and the Jets, while in desperate need of a star talent such as Samuel, may feel the asking price is too high.

Still, there's hardly a team in the league that could prepare a more tantalizing package for the RB/WR hybrid than New York, who also have ties to Samuel in the form of Robert Saleh and Mike LaFleur. The fact that Samuel has gone out and requested a trade could also help the Jets in their pursuit of him. The 49ers lost a bit of leverage when it became clear that Samuel no longer wanted to be part of the team, though they'll still likely receive a king's ransom in any deal for him.

So, of course the Jets will be in on Samuel, if he's truly made available by the Niners, but as of now, it seems as if the Jets are still not convinced San Francisco is willing to part ways with him.
