New York Jets defensive lineman Quinnen Williams was arrested at LaGuardia Airport in New York and charged with criminal possession of a weapon on Thursday night, according to Morena Bosteiro of ABC 7 New York.

Basteiro notes that the gun he was carrying had an Alabama permit.

Williams, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was originally selected by the Jets with the third overall pick of the NFL Draft last spring.

He played in 13 games during his rookie campaign and had a somewhat disappointing year, finishing with 28 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a fumble recovery.

The 22-year-old spent two seasons at Alabama, arriving at the school in 2017 and logging 20 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and a couple of sacks during his freshman year.

The following season, Williams put himself on the map as a top defensive line prospect, racking up 71 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss and eight sacks.

New York was expected by some to be a playoff contender in 2019, but instead, the Jets got off to a dreadful 1-7 start and ended up going 7-9.

To be fair, Gang Green was hit with a rash of injuries and health issues, and quarterback Sam Darnold missed three games early on due to mono.

However, it was obvious this past season that the Jets were not yet ready to seriously contend for a playoff spot. New York clearly has a lot of work to do this offseason.

The Jets have not made the playoffs since the 2010-11 campaign, when they made it to their second of back-to-back AFC Championship Games.
